Great handheld scanner

The HandyScan SVP PS410 600dpi handheld scanner is the first handheld scanner I have ever owned. In general I am very happy with them. The scanner requires a micro SD card; and one is not included with the scanner. The scanner can use a micro SD card with a maximum storage capacity of 32 GB. When buying a scanner, be sure to include a micro SD card in your order. The scanner also requires two AA batteries to operate. A set of batteries is included; However, some people found that the batteries that came with the product came dead. Try the included batteries first; but if they don't work, you'll have to buy a new set. I use a set of rechargeable AA batteries in my stick scanner; and they work great. The scanner can be operated in three resolution modes. Maximum resolution 900 DPI. Images can be saved as JPG or PDF files on the scanner's micro SD card. I still haven't tried scanning documents in PDF mode; but JPG mode works fine. The scanner does not have a built-in screen for viewing images on a micro SD card; but reviews of scanners with screens show that these types of screens are not very useful, mainly due to their small size. A small CD with OCR software is included with the wand scanner. However, you do not need to install drivers on your computer to connect the scanner to your computer. After connecting the scanner to a USB port on a computer (using the USB cable that came with the scanner), the attached scanner behaves like a USB storage device. A folder will appear on the computer screen; and the user just needs to click on a folder (like a folder on a USB drive) to view the images on the scanner's micro SD card. Because of this, the memory card does not need to be removed from the scanner to read its contents, which is very convenient. Learning to use a scanner takes a little trial and error. Once you get the hang of it, it becomes a useful tool for capturing images from documents and photos. The surface under the document to be scanned must be flat and firm. If the surface has any curvature at all (e.g. the pages of an open book), the scanner should be tilted so that the straightest part of the document/surface is parallel to the length of the scanner itself. It is important to ensure maximum contact of the scanner rollers with the scanned surface; Because if the rollers are not turning, the scanner cannot "know" that it has moved across the document (resulting in a severely distorted image). Then the scanner has to be drawn across the document in a line that is as straight as possible (any curvature of the scanner movement distorts the image of the document). Operating the scanner requires some practice and a steady hand; But scanning a document on a flat, hard surface is the most important factor in getting a good image. Remember that no scan you take with this device will ever be perfect. If a person wants to get better scans of documents and photos, they need to use a flatbed scanner instead of a stick scanner. The stick scanner is simply designed to allow the user to scan with a handheld device while away from home or the office. All in all the HandyScan SVP PS410 600DPI Color & B&W Handheld Scanner looks like a very good product!
