Perfect base for parrot chop

Soak and Simmer is the best prepared mix for feeding and garnishing fresh fruit and vegetables. Unlike some other cooking and serving products that contain refined rice and/or couscous etc., this product is non-sticky and therefore will not contaminate your bird's cage and feathers. Please don't underestimate the importance of this fact: sticky cooked grains can result in sticky feathers, which can lead to skin irritation, infection and feather picking! With that in mind, I'd like to point out that Soak And Simmer features rice in a casing. This is a well thought out feature. The husk keeps each kernel wrapped, fresh and non-sticky, and budgies, small kennels, and cockatiels love to scrape the kernels with their beaks. Another well thought out feature is that this product does not contain any dehydrated vegetables or fruits like some products do. Products containing such components turn out to be mushy and unappetizing when soaked and stewed. Volkman's tailored a suitably sized combination of beans and grains so they all soak and cook at the same rate, resulting in an evenly cooked and non-sticky feed. I make the whole pack at once and freeze them in portions. I defrost portions and mix them with chopped lettuce, apple, zucchini, etc. Separately, I boil sweet potatoes and add cubes. My kennels, macaws and budgies love this mix. Apparently, budgerigars primarily eat wheat berries and rice, but occasionally bite beans as well. While this mix has a small amount of firm corn that softens as it cooks, I like to add some thawed fresh corn. Budgies sometimes like to eat fresh corn. I also cook black lentils separately and sometimes add them to parrot chop. In summary, this is the best product on the market for feeding cooked legumes and grains to parrots of all sizes and serves as an ideal base for adding fresh chopped vegetables.
